Secret Societies & Power Structures: Documented Evidence

Bilderberg, Bohemian Grove, Skull & Bones, Federalist Society, Thiel Network, Rockbridge, Business Plot, Powell Memo

Date: 2026-04-02 Status: PRIVATE - research reference Method: PARDES v2. Documented evidence only - no conspiracy theory.

THE SEED

The Powell Memo of 1971 explicitly prescribed capturing universities, media, courts, and political funding to replace democratic substance while preserving democratic forms - then its author was nominated to the Supreme Court, and every recommendation was implemented over 50 years through institutions that now include 6 of 9 SCOTUS justices, the most-watched cable news network, and a $30.5 billion autonomous weapons company whose founder was advised by the man who pioneered private military contracting.

THE PARAGRAPH

Eight documented organizations and precedents form the connective tissue: Bilderberg (Thiel AND Karp on Steering Committee, 2024 attendees included Luckey, Petraeus, and the heads of DeepMind and Anthropic), Bohemian Grove (Crow hosted Thomas 6+ times, 2023 leaked list includes Koch, Schmidt, Bloomberg, Kissinger), Skull and Bones (Bush Sr. was CIA Director, Mnuchin was Treasury Secretary, 2004 election was Bones vs Bones), the Federalist Society (70,000 members, Leo as gatekeeper, 6/9 SCOTUS justices, the 25-year-old law student to Supreme Court pipeline mapped step by step), Thiel’s Tolkien-named empire (Palantir, Mithril, Valar, Narya with Vance, Founders Fund’s $1B Anduril round), Rockbridge Network (Vance co-founded, $70-80M budget, Thiel/Mercer/Winklevoss as donors, building “government-in-waiting”), the 1933 Business Plot (DuPont and Morgan attempted fascist coup, Butler testified to Congress, zero prosecutions), and the 1971 Powell Memo (the actual blueprint - every institution he prescribed has been built). The arc: Powell writes the blueprint -> institutions built (1972-1985) -> Leo becomes gatekeeper (1991) -> Thiel builds parallel tech infrastructure (2003) -> Rockbridge coordinates tech wing (2019) -> Bilderberg provides transnational layer. The modern version doesn’t require a coup. It captures the institutions themselves. Democratic forms remain. Substance changes.

DEEP RESEARCH: Documented Secret and Semi-Secret Organizations with Political Power

All facts below are sourced from published records, congressional testimony, investigative journalism, official attendee lists, and academic research. No conspiracy theory - documented evidence only.

1. BILDERBERG GROUP

Founding and Structure

Founded 1954 at Hotel de Bilderberg, Oosterbeek, Netherlands. Organized by Polish political advisor Jozef Retinger with support from Prince Bernhard of the Netherlands and David Rockefeller. Operates under Chatham House Rule - participants can use information but cannot attribute it to named speakers. Publishes partial attendee lists (some attendees are omitted - confirmed by Bilderberg-connected source to The Daily Telegraph, 2013). 120-150 participants per meeting.

Steering Committee (current, from official website)

  • Henri de Castries (Chairman) - French businessman
  • Peter Thiel - President, Thiel Capital (attendee: 2007-2016, 2019, 2022-2024)

Co-created American Friends of Bilderberg Inc.
  • Henry Kissinger: First attended 1964 (Williamsburg). Formally co-opted 1977, weeks after leaving Secretary of State role. Attended 1971 Woodstock meeting before his peak policy influence.
  • Rockefeller proposed the Trilateral Commission at a Bilderberg meeting but was “shot down in flames” (his own words, Daily Yomiuri, 1991).

A secret meeting between Karp, Thiel, and Sweden’s PM Kristersson at the 2025 meeting caused controversy in Sweden.

Documented Policy Influence

  • European integration/Euro creation: Etienne Davignon (former Bilderberg chairman) facilitated discussions leading to the euro. Tommaso Padoa-Schioppa (euro architect) served on Bilderberg’s steering committee. Every ECB president before appointment attended at least one Bilderberg conference. First ECB president Wim Duisenberg was Bilderberg’s honorary treasurer.
  • Career advancement pattern: Ursula von der Leyen attended four Bilderberg conferences before becoming European Commission president (2019). Bill Clinton attended 1991, became president 1993 - facilitated by Vernon Jordan (Bilderberg steering committee). Mark Rutte replaced Stoltenberg at NATO in 2024 after attending multiple conferences. As of 2023, four Bilderbergers simultaneously held: UN (Guterres), IMF (Georgieva), NATO (Stoltenberg), EU (von der Leyen).
  • Revolving door: Stoltenberg: attended Bilderberg, promoted to NATO, became co-chair. Peter Carrington followed identical trajectory. EU examples: Davignon, Barroso, Hedegaard.

2. BOHEMIAN GROVE

Structure

Founded 1872 as the Bohemian Club in San Francisco. 2,700-acre private campground in Monte Rio, California. All-male membership. Organized into “camps” (like fraternities - members in the same camp socialize together during visits). Annual two-week summer retreat (mid-July). 30-foot concrete owl statue serves as ritual centerpiece (“Cremation of Care” ceremony since 1929). Membership costs thousands of dollars; guests require sponsored applications.

Harlan Crow and Clarence Thomas (ProPublica documented)

  • Thomas took at least six undisclosed trips with Crow to Bohemian Grove (ProPublica investigation).
  • Crow is a member; Thomas was his guest, staying at a lodge called “Midway.”
  • Thomas acknowledged for the first time in 2024 financial disclosures that he should have reported two 2019 trips (Indonesia + Bohemian Grove), first revealed by ProPublica.
  • Thomas amended his reports to include only ONE of the six documented Grove trips.
  • ProPublica also documented Thomas attending Koch brothers retreats at the Grove - Leonard Leo helped arrange these, even interviewing Thomas at a Koch summit.

Manhattan Project Meeting (September 14, 1942)

Documented attendees at the S-1 Executive Committee meeting at the Grove:

  • J. Robert Oppenheimer (not yet an S-1 Committee member; hosted the meeting)
  • Ernest O. Lawrence (hosted the meeting)
  • James B. Conant
  • Lyman J. Briggs
  • Eger V. Murphree
  • Arthur H. Compton
  • Harold C. Urey
  • Robert Thornton
  • Major Thomas T. Crenshaw (in civilian clothes to hide military presence)
  • Colonel Kenneth Nichols (also in civilian clothes)

This occurred one month before Gen. Groves chose Oppenheimer to direct the Manhattan Project’s weapons lab. Critical decisions shaping the project’s direction were made at this meeting.

Current Status

No publicly verified members after 1982. The society tapped its first openly trans member in recent years, according to The Atlantic, which described it as having “utterly transformed” along with other Yale institutions. No documented current political figures can be confirmed as members.

Connection to Technate Network

No documented direct connection exists between Skull and Bones and any “Technate network.” The society’s influence operates through elite social networking rather than formal institutional coordination.

4. THE FEDERALIST SOCIETY AS A FUNCTIONAL SECRET SOCIETY

Structure and Scale

Founded April 23, 1982 at University of Chicago. 70,000+ members. 200 student chapters at law schools. Lawyers chapters in 90 U.S. cities. 501(c)(3) nonprofit. Budget quadrupled during the 1990s under Leo’s fundraising.

How It Actually Selects Judges - The Pipeline

Stage 1 - Law School Recruitment: Student chapters at every major law school. Brown bag lunches with sitting judges. Clerkship guidance and networking. Journal of Law and Public Policy positions. Access to “prestigious professional advantages that only the society can offer” (The New Yorker called it “a kind of Rolodex for legal jobs”).

Stage 2 - Clerkships: Federal clerkships serve as springboards. Harvard FedSoc explicitly coaches: “Let people know you are interested… the more people know about your resume, the better.” Go to FedSoc lunches with judges. Network with 2Ls and 3Ls who “know the process, they know the judges.”

Stage 3 - Career Placement: Practice groups, pro-bono networks, media programs keep members engaged. Clerkships lead to “coveted positions at top law firms, the White House, and the Justice Department.”

Stage 4 - Judicial Cultivation: After the 1992 Casey decision (three Republican appointees upheld abortion rights), Leonard Leo concluded: “identify candidates while they were young and nurture them throughout their careers.” Methods: strategic placements, support after setbacks, insulation from ideological drift, clerkship opportunities as incentives.

Stage 5 - Nomination Lists: Leo drew up the lists of potential justices for Trump’s 2016 campaign. By March 2020, 43 out of 51 Trump appellate court nominees were current or former FedSoc members. Six of nine Supreme Court justices are FedSoc members or affiliates: Kavanaugh, Gorsuch, Thomas, Alito, Barrett, and formerly Roberts (steering committee).

Leonard Leo’s Role vs. Formal Structure

  • Leo founded Cornell’s FedSoc chapter (1989), joined national office 1991
  • Served as VP for 25+ years, earning $400K+ annually by 2019
  • Left in January 2020 to start CRC Advisors (for-profit consulting) while remaining co-chairman of FedSoc board
  • The formal organization claims to be about “intellectual debate”
  • Leo’s actual function: de facto gatekeeper. ProPublica: “the de facto gatekeeper for right-of-center lawyers aspiring to government jobs and federal judgeships under Republican presidents”
  • Leo himself endorses “the network theory” - “less about who gets what job and more about building a community that can be self-perpetuating”

Leo’s Specific Supreme Court Involvement

  • Thomas (1991): Leo was 25 years old; helped research evidence during confirmation hearings. Thomas is now godfather to one of Leo’s daughters.
  • Roberts & Alito: Led confirmation campaigns through Judicial Confirmation Network
  • Gorsuch: CRC Advisors coordinated months-long media campaign; affiliated entities raised $250M+ (2014-2017)
  • Kavanaugh: Personally lobbied for nomination; raised ~$15M for confirmation
  • Barrett: Participated in selection process after Ginsburg’s death (2020)

Leo’s Financial Empire

  • $1.6 billion: Marble Freedom Trust received this from Illinois businessman Barre Seid (2022) - largest known political advocacy donation in U.S. history
  • $600M+: Groups in Leo’s orbit raised this between 2014-2020
  • $504M: Teneo Network entities spent this collectively (mid-2015 to 2021)
  • $250M: Freedom and Opportunity Fund distributed in 2022 ($153M to Rule of Law Trust)
  • $43M+: Leo moved from nonprofits to CRC Advisors (2021-2022)
  • Organizations: 85 Fund, Concord Fund (formerly Judicial Crisis Network), CRC Advisors, BH Group, Rule of Law Trust, Marble Freedom Trust, Teneo Network

The Career Path (concrete example)

Brett Kavanaugh: Law school FedSoc member -> clerkship -> George W. Bush administration (met Leo) -> D.C. Circuit appointment -> when his clerks wanted him on Trump’s Supreme Court list, “they made a pilgrimage to the Federalist Society to see Leonard Leo” -> nominated 2018.

  • Four 501(c)(4) dark-money groups
  • Two super PACs
  • One 501(c)(3) donor fund
  • One LLC umbrella organization

Component organizations: Better Tomorrow (voter mobilization, Richmond), The Faithful in Action (church-based political recruitment, Cheyenne), Firebrand Action (media/messaging, Glen Allen), Over the Horizon Action (legal/policy research, Arlington).

Membership and Budget

  • 125 members (2023), ~150-200 (November 2024)

How It Differs from DonorsTrust and CNP

  • DonorsTrust: Donor-advised fund acting as fiscal conduit; gives to broad conservative ecosystem. Lawson Bader (DonorsTrust president) is also a CNP member.
  • CNP (Council for National Policy): Founded 1981 by Tim LaHaye. Umbrella networking organization for traditional/Christian right. Major donors include DonorsTrust, Bradley Foundation, Mercer Family Foundation, Sarah Scaife Foundation. Members include Leonard Leo, ALEC CEO Lisa Nelson, SPN president Tracie Sharp.
  • Rockbridge’s distinction: Explicitly Trump-aligned (Koch network endorsed Haley). Heavy Silicon Valley tech investor base rather than traditional conservative donors. Positions itself as “leading edge of a changing Republican Party.” Focuses on building parallel infrastructure for working-class voters. Calls itself “filling GOP infrastructure gaps.”

Is This the Tech Wing Coordination Mechanism?

Evidence supports this interpretation:

  • Co-founded by Thiel associate (Vance) with Thiel’s financial backing
  • Thiel, Mercer, Winklevoss twins as donors (tech wealth, not traditional GOP money)
  • Marc Andreessen as speaker/member
  • 2022 brochure goal: building “government-in-waiting”
  • International expansion: Rockbridge Korea established September 2025

June 2024 Palm Beach Meeting

7. THE BUSINESS PLOT (1933) - Historical Precedent

What Happened

In 1933-1934, Wall Street interests allegedly conspired to overthrow President Franklin D. Roosevelt and install a military dictatorship. The plot was exposed by Major General Smedley Butler, at the time the most decorated Marine in U.S. history.

Butler’s Testimony (McCormack-Dickstein Committee)

Executive session held at New York City Bar Association, West 44th Street.

Timeline of recruitment meetings Butler testified to:

  • July 1, 1933: First meeting with Gerald MacGuire and Bill Doyle
  • July 3-4, 1933: MacGuire presented typed speech advocating return to gold standard
  • August 1, 1933: MacGuire solo visit
  • Late September 1933: Meeting with Robert Sterling Clark
  • August 22, 1934: Final meeting - MacGuire outlined full coup plan

The Proposal:

  • Army of 500,000 men for a march on Washington
  • Financial backing from Wall Street
  • Pretext: “the president’s health was failing”
  • Butler would receive position as “Secretary of General Affairs” with near-absolute power
  • Roosevelt would become a figurehead

Named Conspirators (documented in testimony and committee report)

Directly Named:

  • Gerald C. MacGuire - Wall Street bond salesman, Grayson Murphy & Company (primary recruiter)
  • Robert Sterling Clark - Art collector, Singer Corporation fortune heir; MacGuire’s principal
  • Grayson Murphy - Director of Goodyear Tire, Anaconda Copper, Bethlehem Steel; allegedly underwrote American Legion formation

Accused by Butler and investigators (not called to testify):

  • Irenee du Pont - DuPont Corporation executive
  • J.P. Morgan Jr. - Morgan banking interests
  • Thomas Lamont - J.P. Morgan associate
  • CEOs of General Motors, Birds Eye, General Foods

The American Liberty League Connection

Weeks after MacGuire’s final meeting with Butler, the American Liberty League formed - the “super-organization” MacGuire had referenced. Its members included J.P. Morgan Jr., Irenee du Pont, and executives from General Motors, Birds Eye, and General Foods. Combined assets: nearly $40 billion.

Weapons and ammunition were to be supplied by Remington Arms (Bridgeport-based), which had recently been acquired by DuPont Corporation.

Committee Findings (February 15, 1935)

The committee’s final report stated:

  • “This committee was able to verify all the pertinent statements made by General Butler, with the exception of the direct statement suggesting the creation of the organization.”
  • That exception “was corroborated in the correspondence of MacGuire with his principal, Robert Sterling Clark”
  • Key conclusion: “There is no question that these attempts were discussed, were planned, and might have been placed in execution when and if the financial backers deemed it expedient.”

Media Response

  • Nov 22, 1934 NYT editorial: Dismissed Butler’s story as “a gigantic hoax”
  • Two months later (after full investigation): Time magazine noted “a two-month investigation had convinced [the committee] that General Butler’s story of a Fascist march on Washington was alarmingly true”

Why It Matters as Precedent

No one was prosecuted. The committee explicitly refused to call the major financial figures named. Historian Arthur Schlesinger Jr. (1958): “No doubt, MacGuire did have some wild scheme in mind, though the gap between contemplation and execution was considerable.” The plot demonstrates: wealthy American elites have previously organized to replace democratic governance with authoritarian governance, and when caught, faced zero legal consequences.

8. THE POWELL MEMO (1971) - The Blueprint

The Document

Date: August 23, 1971 Author: Lewis F. Powell Jr., Richmond attorney, former ABA president, board member of Philip Morris Recipient: Eugene B. Sydnor Jr., Education Committee Chair, U.S. Chamber of Commerce Title: “Attack On American Free Enterprise System” Classification: Confidential (not public until after Powell’s Supreme Court confirmation) Context: Written two months before Nixon nominated Powell to the Supreme Court

Specific Recommendations

1. Universities/Campus:

  • Establish staffs of “eminent scholars, writers and speakers”
  • Evaluate social science textbooks “especially in economics, political science and sociology” as a “continuing program”
  • Place scholars strategically on campuses
  • Objective: “restoring balance and genuine academic freedom”

2. Media:

  • “National television networks should be monitored in the same way that textbooks should be kept under constant surveillance”
  • Not merely educational programs but daily “news analysis”
  • Devote “10 percent of total advertising budget” to corporate propaganda
  • Create speakers’ bureaus

3. Courts/Legal:

  • Identified as “an area of vast opportunity”
  • Chamber should become “spokesman for American business”
  • Requires “a highly competent staff of lawyers”
  • Exploit judicial action systematically

4. Political Action:

  • “Political power is necessary; it must be assiduously cultivated; and it must be used aggressively and with determination”
  • “No hesitation to attack”
  • “No reluctance to penalize politically those who oppose”

What Was Actually Built (the 50-year arc)

Year Institution Created Powell Memo Category
1972 Business Roundtable Corporate mobilization
1973 American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC) Political/legislative
1973 Heritage Foundation Think tank/policy
1977 Cato Institute Think tank/libertarian
1978 Manhattan Institute Think tank/media
1982 Federalist Society Courts/legal pipeline
1984 Citizens for a Sound Economy (now Americans for Prosperity) Political action
1985 Accuracy in Academe Universities/campus
1996 Fox News Media

Results:

  • Heritage Foundation boasts Reagan administration implemented 1,200 of its 2,000 policy recommendations; Trump administration embraced similarly high percentage
  • U.S. Chamber of Commerce became Washington’s most powerful lobby, spending $770M+ since 1998
  • Federalist Society produced 6 of 9 current Supreme Court justices
  • Citizens United decision (2010) - enabled unlimited corporate political spending, fulfilling Powell’s vision of corporate political power

The Powell-to-Court Pipeline

Powell was nominated to the Supreme Court by Nixon two months after writing the memo. The memo was leaked to journalist Jack Anderson after Powell’s confirmation, which spread interest further among business leaders. Senator Sheldon Whitehouse has documented the direct line from the memo to modern judicial capture in his “Scheme” speech series.

Academic Text

The original memo is archived at Washington and Lee University School of Law - Powell Papers.

  • 1933 Business Plot: Wealthy industrialists (DuPont, Morgan) attempt to overthrow democratic government with private army. Exposed, zero prosecutions.
  • 1971 Powell Memo: Corporate lawyer writes blueprint for institutional capture. Nominated to Supreme Court. Every recommendation implemented over 50 years.
  • 2019-present: Tech billionaires build parallel infrastructure (Rockbridge), capture judiciary (Leo/$1.6B), build private defense capacity (Anduril/$30B), coordinate through semi-secret meetings (Bilderberg, Bohemian Grove).

The difference: the modern version does not require a coup. The Powell Memo’s insight was that you capture the institutions themselves - universities, media, courts, political funding - and the democratic forms remain while the substance changes. Every institution Powell targeted has been substantially captured through the organizations documented above.
